Self Evaluations
After reviewing how the lessons I taught went, I have come to the conclusion that time is not on my side :-)! I really need to adjust my lesson planning to either not include so much material to cover or better manage the time I do have. I’m pretty sure it is the latter that needs to be accomplished. Classroom interruptions from students was one of my main problems with trying to stay on track. When a student would like to explain how they relate to the material being covered, I felt that it was rude to interrupt them and tell them to stop even if they would get off track with their conversation. The students would seem so excited to say something that I didn’t want to hurt their feelings. I know that learning how to do this would be more beneficial for students because they would stay focused better and there would be more instructional time for them. On the plus side, I do feel that the students enjoyed the activities that I planned for them and when a student had difficulty with something, we could work well together to come up with an answer. I think that the technology I incorporated was adequate, but I do wish I would have found some other videos about Boom Towns and the Gold Rush that were more age appropriate. I truly enjoyed working with the students and I’ve had several of them ask me to come back and teach reading to them again!
