Educational Philosophy
As an early childhood educator it is my responsibility to engage children in the love of learning. Although there are many challenges in teaching, the rewards far out way those challenges. I feel teaching as not a job that I drudge myself to everyday, but as something I truly enjoy and have been called to do. I believe children deserve the chance in an environment where they feel safe, loved, and do not fear coming to school. All children should have the opportunity to learn, grow, and develop new skills that will take them further in their education. I firmly believe that children should be respected and valued. They are human beings too and do matter. Children are our future of this country and will take the leadership role as we start to leave those positions.
Being able to teach young children in grades kindergarten through third, will be very exciting! I like a classroom that is colorful and has many fun areas of learning for all subjects. Creating a fun environment for children enables them to realize that being at school is not boring or a chore, it is a place where fun activities happen. I believe that every student has the ability to learn and deserves the chance to grow in their skills.
In my classroom, students will learn from their prior experiences, interactions with their peers, and their environment. Students will be taught all the necessary standards in my classroom and we will do this in a variety of different ways. Not just the traditional paper and pencil. We will do many hands on activities that include using art, music, manipulatives, and experiments as a form of comprehension. Play is also important for young children, this is their job! They learn and imitate specific situations by observing adults and then use play to enforce these skills. There will be many different kinds of assignments available for students. All children learn differently and it is my responsibility to find the way they learn best. We will also incorporate technology use in the classroom with the use of the smartboard and computer. Students can do many fun learning games on these devices that aids in learning.
Classroom management is extremely important in the learning process. Without the ability to have routines, organization, and rules there would be complete chaos in the classroom. Learning could not be accomplished. My classroom will have specific routines and procedures for answering questions, putting papers away, and lining up. The classroom will be organized in a way where items can be found without difficulty. Everything will be labeled and easily accessible for when the students need them. When students have finished their work, they will be required to get a book and read silently until we have moved on to the next lesson. Students will also be required to use good manners, treat their peers and teachers with respect, and conduct themselves in a positive manner. Any kind of bullying will not be allowed and discipline procedures will be put in place. This will include a warning and conference with all the students involved. We will discuss what could have been said or done that would have been a better reaction to the specific situation. If this does not resolve the situation, then other procedures will be put in place.
My goals for my students are to facilitate a love and desire of learning, to enjoy their school days, and to foster their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
